Irish-American Heritage Month
In celebration of March as Irish-American Heritage Month, Recollecting Nemasket will be featuring stories and records through March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, relating to the Irish experience in Middleborough and Lakeville. This series will focus specifically upon the Famine Irish, those immigrants who arrived in Nemasket beginning in the late 1840s and who had a most profound impact upon the development of the community. The various postings will consider the immigrants' experience, their early lives in Middleborough, the discrimination and prejudice which confronted them, their gradual assimilation into American society and the organizations which assisted them in this process.
