Roster of Irish-Born Middleborough Residents, 1855

Following is a list of Irish-born residents of Middleborough as recorded in the 1855 Massachusetts state census, showing name, age, occupation and residence. Many of the records are difficult to read and names shown in parenthesis () are as they appear in the original record. Because the unfamiliarity with many of these names, census takers frequently wrote them phonetically and the names in braces [] provide the more likely spelling. The nearly 200 names listed below represented about 4.3 per cent of the population of Middleborough which totalled 4,324 persons. (Due to the setting off of Lakeville in 1853, the 1855 population of Middleborough was substantially lower than 1850).
